For excellence in journalism anaylsing the impact of gender issues on development in the Pacific Islands.
The UNIFEM/SPC Section J award takes its name from Section J on Women and the media, of the Beijing Platform for Action (1995), a global commitment to action towards equality for women. The Section J award recognises the role of mainstream journalism in the Pacific in advancing public debate and raising awareness of the situation of Pacific women and girls, and critical concerns which affect their lives, especially in the context of Pacific development, governance and human rights issues.
Journalists or News organisations from SPC member nations should submit at least 3 but no more than six (6) works published or broadcast between September 2004 to October 2005. All entries must be in English or feature english transcripts for broadcast/online or vernacular journalism.

Entries must include the original published work as it appears on a page/pages in their entirety, along with labelling that indicates date and name of publication.
Broadcast/Online
Entries should feature a transcript of the submitted work with the audio/visual recording or web hyperlink for online submissions.
Work should be of a standard that demonstrates a depth and analysis of gender-based discrimination and how it affects Pacific women and national development. The submitted work should feature a standard of journalistic analysis which advances public debate or knowledge of the impact of gender on national development in the areas below:
Women, girls and:
* health/HIV/AIDS
* education and training
* economic empowerment/globalisation and trade and labour migration
* agriculture and fishing
* legal and human rights
* shared decision making
* environment
* culture and the family/tradition and religion
* mechanisms to promote the advancement of women
* violence
* peace and justice/peace and security
* poverty
* indigenous people's rights
* media, information communication and technology
* the Millennium Development Goals and Pacific Plan
* the UN Convention on the Elimination of All forms of Discrimination Against women (CEDAW)
All submissions can be sent to PINA as per the entry form details by 11 November to Fiji. or Friday 18th November if handed in by delegates travelling to Tonga.
The recipient will be announced during the PINA media awards night on November 21st in Nuku'alofa, Tonga.
