PINA Convention 2005
Pro-French parties strike majority accord ahead of government election

31 JULY 2007 NOUMEA (Pacnews) ---- New Caledonia's three main pro-French parties have signed what is referred to as a “majority accord” in a bid to present a united block ahead of this week's election by the local Congress of a new government line-up, Oceania Flash reports

This follows the resignation last week of former government President, Marie-Noëlle Thémereau.

President Thémereau's resignation triggered de facto the downfall of the whole cabinet, which is now deemed to have resigned and has since only held a caretaker role.
